So many ways to add
Survival Kit

We are learning how to prepare for an earthquake. As a class we brainstormed all the things you could have in a survival kit. Then we had to discuss what we would put in and what not to include. We had to think about how much we would need for 3 days and what to put in if we weren't allowed to open our survival kit all the time.
After we choose the things we wanted (things in the hoop) we checked with the civil defence brochure. Somethings we had missed like batteries, clothing, toilet paper but we did get heaps of things too!

When to use K and C
Middles have been looking at when to use c or k for the 'k' sound at the start of words.
We did a big brainstorm of words and then looked at the patterns.
Can you guess what we found...
Heres a clue (look at the letter after the 'k' sound at the start
king, kit, keep,
cat, cape, can, cool, cold, cover, cut, curve

Earthquakes
We have been looking at heaps of information on Earthquakes this week. We know how earthquakes are made and we use heaps of words like plates, fault lines, epicentre to describe them. Now we are figuring out what to do if an earthquake happens at school. Have a look at Luca's design - can you see how he has folded his paper boy to cover his head and hold a table leg. We wouldn't want the table moving away from us!
Different spelling for the 'k' sound
We did a big brainstorm of all the 'k' words we could think of. Most were the c and k sound, are there anymore?
So far we have c, k, ck, I know of three more, can you guess what they are?
